FRET - Slide Preparation (Page 4)

Now comes the tricky part. The two slides are pushed apart, like the technique used to separate the two halves of an Oreo cookie and get to the yummy filling. Except here one uses a constant, gentle sliding action. The pad usually sticks to one slide or the other. If you are preparing multiple slides, then use a kimwipe to clean the slide without the pad. This slide will bind the pad on the next try. The technique can be frustrating at first, as the pad is fragile and can easily be ripped apart. After awhile you can expect 95% success rate.
